What it does

Ranks the coins once and takes the top of the ranking long and the bottom of it short, splitting the portfolio's capital between the sides by the long share (half and half by default, so the book is neither net long nor net short). Commit rules and weights after it work on each side separately, and a short is ranked from the bottom, so rank 1 is the strongest short.

What happens

Used only inside a Universe. It runs at the universe's refresh or pick instants over every allowed coin, using only data that had closed by then, and its wires carry coin sets, per-coin columns or selections rather than one value per bar.

When to use

When a score separates winners from losers but the coins all move with the market: holding the losers short cancels most of that shared move, so what is left is the score's own edge.

Gotchas

  • Perpetual futures only. A spot market cannot short, so a spot coin source is refused.
  • A universe has exactly one pick node; this one already holds both sides.
  • A short pays funding when funding is negative. Coins being squeezed can cost a short more in funding than they lose in price.
